About the event
Glass Poems: responding to More Power to You: Sarah Purser — a force in Irish art and the Stained Glass Room
Saturday 7 December 2024, 11am-4pm (including an hour lunch break; lunch not included)
‘Glass Poems’ is a poetry workshop inspired by the leadership of Sarah Purser in establishing An Túr Gloine (‘The Tower of Glass’), which was instrumental in the resurgence of the art of stained glass in Ireland. Led by poet Grace Wilentz, this workshop will touch on Sarah Purser’s life and legacy, before visiting the Gallery’s Stained Glass Room. We will read poetry connected to the medium of stained glass and discuss what it would mean to create ‘talking glass’ or a ‘glass poem’, before writing our own original poems in response to these explorations. No previous experience in poetry is required. Participants can expect to come away from this workshop with new ideas and approaches to writing…
