In this workshop we’ll explore the art of the Irish winter poem, reflecting on the season as we near the winter solstice. In each session, we’ll read and discuss a poem, drawing out its finest elements before writing our own original poems in response. Central themes of the works selected include memory, sensory experience, time and communion. Named for the last full moon of the year—the Long Night’s Moon—this workshop will delve into winter’s depths while also celebrating light emerging out of darkness through the soon-to-be lengthening days. Towards the end of the workshop we’ll carve out space for meditating on individual poetic aspirations for the new year, including conversation around sustaining a regular artistic practice and publishing.Course Summary
